Bay Area Radio Drama: Locations
Locations
is a series of original plays for radio concentrating on specific locations as a basis for the writing and the production. The writers were asked to select a particular location, one that interested them as a dramatic setting, then to explore it, listening for sounds, situations, intrusions and other happenings which would not otherwise have been imagined, as options for their drama. Their scripts would then draw upon these acoustical elements, the action and voices of the characters recorded at the locations, the final composing of text and sound accomplished in digital production studios. The series is produced by
BARD
(Bay Area Radio Drama), a non-profit corporation for the production of radio drama. Sound Designers are Jim McKee at Earwax Productions in San Francisco, and Randy Thom, at Lucasfilm's Skywalker Sound. The programs were produced by Erik Bauersfeld.
Eleven programs in all.

"One of these Days (or Nights)"
This piece is a spontaneously created narrative performed by its author,
Lawrence Ferlinghetti
. A man and his dog wander up a mountain observing its solitude and the worldly disasters below. Visions of Paradiso are shattered by gunfire and explosions. Nightingales and "the beating of wings" compete with Army aircraft and bombing. A "wave of radiance" becomes an oceanic tidal wave that sweeps across the globe and wipes out civilizations. The two apocalyptic disasters, fire and water, clear the earth for a new beginning. Sound design by Jim Mckee, music by Wieslaw Pogorzelski, with location recording by Maria Gilardin. It was directed and produced by Erik Bauersfeld.
